Laser Scanning

Digital Imaging

Area and Linear Images, they are the two kinds of digital imaging. Digital imaging uses LED lights that illuminate and capture bar code images quickly. It uses the same technology like taking a photograph with a digital camera. Basically, it’s like taking a bar code picture. A software will then decode the data and locate the bar code within the captured image. Then data gets processed, interpreted and verified.

Area and Linear Images are actually very alike, only that Linear Images only captures a single row of data pixels. Thus, its work is limited around 1D bar codes only unlike Area Images that can scan and read 2D bar code. Nonetheless, digital imaging is considered a more advanced way of scanning bar code. It is able to scan the latest kinds of bar code because of that. Digital imaging is efficient and reliable just like any other scanning device.
